Fellow Bowlers
As we celebrate 40 years playing of the Scottish Inter District Top Ten I would like to pay tribute to a great group of guys who travelled the length and breadth of the country all these years ago. Spreading the word and gospel of a competitive format and event that set the world of bowls in Scotland alight, and soon to capture the support of 25 City and County Associations, nationwide.
A lot of work and commitment has been given over these many years not just by the original steering group but by the people who have followed on in presidential capacity, secretaries, treasurers, and not forgetting the delegates that have travelled miles and miles to attend all meetings over these past years.
It is a great tribute to the original group that your enthusiasm, tenacity, and TLC have carried on the great work of this marvellous tournament. Thank you one and all.

Fellow Bowlers
It’s been an amazing privilege to be associated with the rise and popularity of the Scottish Top Ten.
In 1983 I accepted the invitation for Lanarkshire Leagues to take part in an Inter County Competition. Lesmahagow was our champion club that year and they would go on to represent us in the 1984 tournament.
The semi-finals took place on Gorgie Mills and Bainfield. The Final in the afternoon took place at Currie Bowling Club where Lesmahagow won.
It was decided the event would continue yearly with this fantastic format of bowling and a draw took place that Lanarkshire would host the finals in 1985 followed by Mid Lothian 1986 and East Lothian 1987. The host Association to provide the prizes.
After difficulties in 1986 an effort was initiated to get sponsorship for the future years. And thanks to Mike McGill (Edin) who managed to get the Royal Bank of Scotland Master Card to sponsor us. The Sponsor stated they wanted us to expand the tournament to include every Bowling County in Scotland.
It was a huge task duly enthusiastically tackled by a committee including, Andrew McKellar, Alistair Forrest, John Bell, Jimmy Buchan, and myself.
We travelled all over the country inviting Associations to join us, setting in motion a bandwagon that quickly gained momentum and would eventually achieve the amazing membership role of 25 City and County Associations – A truly nationwide event.
Throughout the 40 active years of the Association I have travelled to every county and the friendship and comradeship is second to none in the Bowling fraternity.
Hailed by the massive army of our Bowlers as “The Best Club Team Event on the National Calendar”, may our Scottish Top Ten continue to thrive and promote our Sport at all levels.
